James
F. Walsh Foundation is dedicated to promoting early detection,
awareness and research of pancreatic cancer.
After
Jim passed away from his bout with pancreatic cancer many
of his family members and friends decided to organize a memorial
golf outing in Jim's honor. The purpose of this event
was to spend a day dedicated to celebrating Jim's life, and
also to make a contribution to the research involved in the
early detection of pancreatic cancer. That idea evolved (and
continues to evolve) into the development of the James
F. Walsh Foundation.
The
founding members (2006) include: Deborah Walsh (wife),
Adam Walsh (son), Rich Walsh (brother) and Barbara Franks
(friend). This year (2008), our board has grown and we have
welcomed John Walsh (brother), Larry Walsh (brother), Erin
Walsh (neice) and Mary Beth Roman (friend). We have decided
to continue with the golf outing fundraiser since it was so
successful in its first year.
In
2007, the James F. Walsh Foundation
raised $45,000 ($35,000 in 2006) that has since been donated
to Dr. Brand and the University of Pittsburg Medical Center
and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Evanston, IL - where
Jim received his treatment for pancreatic cancer. In working
with Dr. Brand of University of Pittsburg and ENH, the James
F. Walsh Foundation will continue to pursue a successful method
of early detection for pancreatic cancer.
The
James F. Walsh Foundation is already off to a strong start.
We have already received acceptance from Blue Cross &
Blue Shield of Illinois to be our event sponsor for this year's
James F. Walsh Memorial Golf Outing.
This is the third consecutive year that Blue Cross & Blue
Shield of Illinois has sponsored this event. For more information
of the James F. Walsh Memorial Golf
Outing and details about the event sponsor click here.
We
will continue to pursue a breakthrough in the early detection
of pancreatic cancer in hope that we will someday make a difference.
