Join us in our efforts to find a solution for early detection for pancreatic cancer. One of the most difficult things about this pancreatic cancer is the fact that it goes undetected until it is too late. We believe that if we can find ways to detect symptoms of pancreatic cancer in its early stages that we can save many lives.

In honor of James F. Walsh, we (his family and friends) have established this foundation, dedicated to promoting research, awareness and early detection of Pancreatic Cancer.

Jim Walsh, the inspiration for the Foundation's efforts, died 5 months after his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. In those five months he showed us the true meaning of courage, dignity, hope and faith.

Pancreatic cancer is the ninth or tenth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States. Though pancreatic cancer is initially difficult to detect, approximately 43,000 people living in the United States are diagnosed each year.

Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest of all cancers because it initially presents few symptoms and can take months to diagnose. The disease is not only common, it is also extremely difficult to treat. Average life expectancy after diagnosis is only 3-6 months. For these and other reasons, cancer of the pancreas has been called "the challenge of the twenty-first century".

The government funding of pancreatic cancer research in 2007 was $74.2 million. This total has increased throughout the past couple of years and demonstrates that the awareness is increasing as well. Hopefully, we will reach our goal of finding a solution for early detection of this disease.

We ask you to please continue to help us in our efforts to spread awareness and promote research of Pancreatic Cancer. There is a cure out there somewhere, and we can be a part of the discovery.
